We had the opportunity to sit down and watch the first episode of Mann to Man…Love, Your Mind on YouTube recently, and all I can say is…Mind. Blown. Before we get into it though, let’s talk about what this show is.
Mann to Man is a new series on YouTube created and hosted by David Mann. The comedian, singer, host extraordinaire is providing a platform for men to talk about mental health in a safe space, and we’re here for all of it! Here’s the trailer.
A while back, Mann opened up on The Tamron Hall Show. He spoke publicly about his mental health struggles, where he revealed that he was depressed and suicidal. That led to some much needed conversations about men and mental health, and ultimately sparked this show.
On episode one, David Mann had a roundtable discussion with Dr. Alduan Tartt, Israel Houghton, and longtime friend and colleague Kirk Franklin. The men dug deep into the hearts and minds of men all over the world who believe that admitting there’s a problem, and asking for help is a sign of weakness. More specifically, they spoke about men in church who are discouraged from speaking up and even seeking professional help. At one point in the show, David Mann became emotional and shared how he felt ashamed of being depressed beyond “praying things away”.
The group touched on a few pain points regarding being male, growing up in church, and needing help in coping and healing. They talked about the older generations that didn’t understand what mental health was or how to treat it. The men discussed solutions for this day and age to get results that put men in better positions to be more effective leaders and to be seen as human beings.
When we say this show is so good. We mean, it. is. so. good. It’s a must watch, and you should check it out now. Below is the first episode of Mann to Man…Love, Your Mind.
Mental health has always been a taboo topic in the black community, and we give kudos to David Mann and everyone else who is advocating for mental health.
